Former Kenyan Sports Cabinet Secretary Dr Hassan Wario was Wednesday found guilty of abuse of office as well as an extended charge of embezzling monies meant for the Kenyan Team of athletes to the 2016 Rio Olympic games. Kenyan media reported that the former Cabinet Secretary who resigned from office following the revelation of the misdoings was found culpable of loss of close to Sh89 million allocated to the National Olympic Committee of Kenya(KNOCK) ahead of the Rio De Janeiro (Brazil) games.

A report filed by Strathmore University's Dean of Students who Chaired the Investigations Committee into the malpractice implicated Dr Wario of the misappropriation that nearly grounded morale of Kenyan delegation to the Olympic games.
According to the Report, the cash was meant to buy air tickets for the Team Kenya, but instead, it was diverted to individual pockets.
The Court ruled that Wario could not account for Sh54 million of the Sh89 million that was in question.
It was also revealed that Sh126 million cash from American sports wear meant for athletics development has been going to the drains since 2013 and is never accounted for to date.
The former official will be detained at Gigili Police Station for the next seven days to await sentencing.
